Omni: Ethereum’s Interoperability Infrastructure
Omni is forging Ethereum's interoperability future, addressing the fragmentation challenge. As Ethereum's unifying layer for all rollups, Omni ensures seamless, secure, and enhanced cross-rollup interactions. Dive into our innovations and vision for a unified Ethereum ecosystem.
We are building the first interoperability layer for Ethereum. This article covers the current status quo, key innovations built by Omni and the future of interoperability for the crypto industry.
The Problem
For over a decade the crypto industry has been criticized for the slow and expensive nature of layer 1 blockchains. Over the past few years, scaling solutions otherwise known as rollups, have begun to offer users the same open, permissionless promise of blockchains at a fraction of the cost. However, the problem is that there are simply too many rollups today which will only grow as a number of high profile zkEVMs begin deploying their mainnets.
While the intentions for building these rollup solutions are pure, we are now entering a new paradigm in which Ethereum is more fractured than ever before. As a result, both users and their liquidity who used to share a common ground on the Ethereum layer 1 have been dispersed across a number of isolated environments. We have solved the problem of high transaction fees, but it has undoubtedly come at the cost of fragmentation.
Omni was built to create a new way forward for Ethereum’s modular future.
The Promise of Omni
Omni is the unification layer for all rollups.
It will serve as the core infrastructure powering all modular applications on Ethereum. When building applications, developers will no longer be forced to build within the confines of a single rollup or execution environment — they will be able to seamlessly build applications that exist everywhere in Ethereum’s ecosystem, accessing all users and all capital simultaneously.
Key Innovations
Omni brings forth a number of novel innovations that are able to work in tandem to fulfill the promise of truly secure, interoperable infrastructure for Ethereum.
Interoperability Secured By Ethereum
Nearly half of all the funds lost in DeFi hacks have originated from vulnerabilities in interoperability protocols. The design space is fraught with difficulties, leading to fragile, insecure deployments. Omni solves this by reimagining the future of the decentralized economy. We believe that the future of crypto is built with Ethereum at its core foundation. We chose to design Omni with this thesis in mind, and this has allowed us to build the most secure interoperability solution ever invented. By leveraging EigenLayer, the Omni Network can facilitate rapid and cheap communication between rollups with security that is derived from Ethereum itself.
Programmable Interoperability
Not only is Omni the most secure interoperability solution ever created, it is also the most functional. By constructing a programmable interoperability layer, Omni will empower builders to create applications that are global by default without adding further complexity to the developer experience.
Programmable interoperability will provide cross rollup applications with fundamental economic advantages compared to siloed applications through properties such as multi-rollup liquidity aggregation.
The Future
In the coming weeks we will be releasing further updates to encapsulate all that Omni has to offer. Specifically, we’ll delve into how we derive security from Ethereum for interoperability, the new class of applications that programmable interoperability will facilitate, and technical development progress with our core rollup partners.
Omni began with the promise of bringing programmable Ethereum interoperability to the world, and we are just getting started.
About Omni
The Omni Network is a layer 1 blockchain built to connect all rollups. Using Omni, developers can build global applications that are available across all rollups. Secured through restaking $ETH, Omni is next generation blockchain leading the frontier in both security and functionality.
Omni is backed by $18M from prominent investors such as Pantera Capital, Two Sigma Ventures and Jump Crypto.
